About Me
I am a 2023 graduate of Lycoming College, where I played soccer and obtained my degree in Ecology and Environmental Science. I spent 4 years exploring the Central Pennsylvania wilderness under professors who supported and encouraged my curiosity. My undergrad research was in wildlife biology; specifically the interactions between humans and wildlife. The way anthropology weaves through science has always been a special interest of mine. I received the Biology Service award from Lycoming Collge. As it was one of two awards available to all biology majors, I am a proud recipient.
Post grad, I was enrolled at the University of North Carolina Wilmington to study environmental law but I dropped out before the program even started. I recognized that my learning goals and passions did not align with that degree.
Instead, I moved home and got a job with the Appalachian Conservation Corp, in the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways office. Here, I found true connections to the communities and natural world that exist in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. A place I had spent my whole life living in, but never truly noticed. Here is where I discovered my passion; giving kids the space and opportunity to notice.
After my time with the Conservation Corp, I moved to Tybee Island Georgia after accepting a role as an environmental educator at the Burton 4-H Center. Here I got to work with all kinds of students from all kinds of backgrounds. I taught rural farm kids, city kids from Atlanta, private school students, Montessori school students, 1st graders, and 12th graders- I saw it all. I also learned the importance of place based learning. Allowing kids to get away from the desks and worksheets allows them to discover new strengths and have autonomy over their learning - which is so powerful.
I then spent a summer as a Conservation Educator for Wyoming Game and Fish, and it was the best summer of my life. I spent three months exploring the Tetons and western Wyoming; always with bear spray at the ready (something I am relieved we do not have to worry about here). Wyoming felt like a whole different world and it showed me my own strength in resilience.
I am now the Coast Kids Director for Assateague Coastal Trust. I lead in school programming, monthly events, and summer programs on the Lower Eastern Shore.
